Mack Brown is back in Chapel Hill and the hiring is already paying major dividends for the Tar Heels adding explosive class of 2020 prospect Lamareon James, who gave a verbal commitment to UNC on Saturday. James, becomes the first 2020 recruit from the Tidewater area for UNC.
The Chesapeake (Va) athlete was one of the recruits in attendance this past weekend. James also visited UNC for Junior Day last month.
It didn’t take long for James to offer his pledge to Brown and the UNC coaching staff following his latest trek to Chapel Hill. With defensive backs coach Dre Bly stalking the Hampton Roads area, the pipeline to Chapel Hill may be more alive than ever.
James also had interest from Auburn, East Carolina, Liberty, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Virginia University of Lynchburg.
Speaking on his decision to commit to North Carolina, James mentioned his relationship with the coaching staff as a primary factor in his commitment.
(UNC) really showed love and wanted me bad,” James said of his decision.
James’ parents were also aligned with choice to give a commitment over the weekend.
“They liked the vibe there and the coaches was just explaining the meaning of being a Tar Heel. Me and my parents made it official Saturday in Coach Brown’s office.
As James stated in a tweet following his commitment, “757 to Carolina, we about to turn this thing around.”
